One of the top holiday destinations in Europe at the moment, for luxury villas, and self catering holiday homes, is Portugal. There are a lot of families that travel to this splendid destination and enjoy spending time in luxury villas that come with private swimming pools. There are also self catering apartments.  It is doubtless the warm Mediterranean climate and the gorgeous beaches that make people endeared to the country.The proud heritage and vibrancy of the culture are things that sum up Portugal. A lot of people come to Portugal, and they use their self catering accommodation as a base, so that they can go off every day and do a bit of exploring. Whether they are going off into the countryside, or sampling the history and culture in local museums and galleries.

Portugal is home to so many luxury villas that are so great that they are complete with swimming pools. Such places can be rented directly from their owners. So many are in the mountains and so give you great views. Others are right next to the beach, so if you get fed up of your private pool you can go in the sea! If you are fortunate enough to be taking a vacation to Portugal, then you can get a self catering apartment that is close to the beach. People that want to be down with the locals often do this. It is an attempt to integrate, and truly be one with the place that is being visited. Doing this is lovely as it often gets you the nicest food and wine. Even though Portugal is really small in comparison with other places, it is classed as one the more rewarding. It has an 800km coastline, and with this comes a delicious smattering of cottages and apartments, along with villas, for holiday makers to get down to some serious relaxation. If you are the type of person that likes to explore capital cities, then you are going to love Lisbon. It is a hilly place that has the most picturesque harbour. People come in their droves to rent villas and apartments which afford them the luxury of having a place that gives them a view of the harbour. You are also really close to the marvellous beaches of the Costa do Sol. The Algarve accounts for a pretty large portion of Portugal`s coastline. 177km to be exact. It is an extremely popular place to go if you are taking your family to Portugal. Again this is a place with a lot of places available to rent, that can be rented directly from the people that own them. Another positive aspect of this part of Portugal is the great selection of golf courses. The greatest part about the Algarve, in terms of the golf that it has to offer, is that the golf is geared towards people with different levels of ability. If you do want to punctuate your golfing with a stay in a big fancy villa with its own swimming pool then you are able to do this, which is great. But also you can stay in more meagre accommodation. When people are asked why they go to Portugal, a lot of them say it is a combination of the sun and the beaches. But Portugal has so much more to offer. The people are lively, the food is magnificent. The accommodation is top notch. With all this and more, it comes as no surprise that Portugal only grows in popularity from year to year.
